Information for banks and shops

Between 2015 and 2017, Sweden is replacing its banknotes and coins. For the benefit of those working in banks and shops, we have compiled some information here on the new banknotes and coins and the older ones that became invalid.

After 30 June 2016, the older 20, 50 and 1,000-krona banknotes became invalid as a means of payment, meaning that shops and so on do not accept these banknotes after this date. Read more on how to redeem invalid banknotes.

The old 100-krona and 500-krona banknotes and the older 1, 2 and 5-krona coins that became invalid after 30 June 2017. After the banknotes and coins have become invalid, it is still possible to deposit them in your bank account during a period of time. After that, the Riksbank can redeem invalid banknotes for an administration fee. However, the Riksbank does not redeem invalid coins.
