Purchases of government bonds (ended)

The Riksbank was buying government bonds since February 2015* with the aim of making monetary policy more expansionary. Such purchases contributed to lowering interest rates in general in the economy, which in turn led to increased general demand in the economy. The purchases were made via recurring auctions. From January 2023, no further purchases will take place, but the holdings will decrease as the bonds mature.
