Increased responsibility for payments in the proposal for a new Sveriges Riksbank Act
A review of the Sveriges Riksbank Act and the role and tasks of the Riksbank is under way with a view to modernising the regulatory framework that governs the Riksbank. The proposal means, among other things, that the Riksbank will be given increased responsibility in the area of payments.
The proposal for a new Sveriges Riksbank Act further states that the Riksbank shall contribute to the public being able to make payments by, for example, providing settlement systems, monitoring the development of the payment market, providing cash and other means of payment, and by monitoring and coordinating, if necessary, the handling of cash in Sweden.
The Riksdag has not yet taken a decision to adopt the Government's proposal for a new Sveriges Riksbank Act.
