Sale of government bonds

In February 2023, the Riksbank decided to start sales of government bonds from April 2023 with the aim of tightening monetary policy and thus safeguarding the inflation target. The decision means that holdings of government bonds will decrease faster than through maturity alone.

The sales take place via recurring auctions, where the Riksbank's monetary policy counterparties as well as dealers to the National Debt Office can participate via bids after registered interest. Investors who wish to participate in the auctions can place bids via the monetary policy counterparties that have registered an interest in participating in the Riksbank's auctions. The bonds are sold to the bidders who submit the best bids.
