How to become a RIX participant

An application to participate in the RIX system should be addressed to the Riksbank. The Riksbank processes every application and if the institution is considered to meet the requirements for participation it will sign an accession agreement with the Riksbank. In addition, a grant of pledge is to be presented if the institution is to use any credit facility. A RIX participant may choose to be certified solely for RIX-RTGS or RIX-INST or for both settlement services.

To facilitate the onboarding process, various instructions have been established:

  • Counterparty Application Instructions: Gives more detailed instructions on how to complete the application forms for institutions wishing to become RIX participants or for existing RIX participants who wish to obtain certification for one of the settlement services. The instructions also provide information on what is required to become a monetary policy counterparty or counterparty in FX transactions. See also “How to become a monetary policy counterparty”
  • RIX-RTGS Onboarding Guide: Describes the process of application certification and implementation of participation in RIX-RTGS
  • RIX-INST Onboarding Guide: Describes the process of application, certification and implementation of participation in RIX-INST
