Anniversary conference

The anniversary conference, that took place on 25 May 2018, marks the official celebration by the Riksbank and the Riksdag of the 350th anniversary of the Riksbank. A special anniversary conference where held on the theme “The role of central banks then, now and in the future”. Among others, the Governors of the Bank of Finland, Bank of England and Federal Reserve System, took the floor. For more details, see the conference programme below. The purpose of the anniversary conference was to celebrate the 350 year history of the Riksbank and to draw attention to the central bank, its history and its role now and in the future. The seminars during the anniversary conference provided an opportunity for important discussions regarding the roles and tasks of the central bank in the past, present and future.

The conference was by invitation only and was divided into two parts. The morning was devoted to a Swedish audience, with invited guests from the Riksdag, the Government, public authorities and the business sector. The afternoon was devoted to an international audience, with invited guests from central banks around the world and other international organisations.

The morning session, which was held in Swedish, was about the role of central banks in society, how this role has changed over time and what challenges lie ahead of us.

The afternoon session, which was held in English, begun with a presentation of the Riksbank’s anniversary book “Sveriges Riksbank and the History of Central Banking”. After that there was a panel discussion concerning the role of central banks in the future.
