SEK 3.8 billion left - 30 June last day to deposit invalid banknotes in bank accounts

Press release There remains a value of 3.8 billion kronor in circulation of the 100 and 500-krona banknotes that became invalid in the summer of 2017. Until 30 June, you can de-posit these notes in a bank account.

There are still about 12 million 100-krona banknotes and 5 million 500-krona banknotes, with a total value of SEK 3.8 million, which have not been redeemed.

“If you still have invalid 100 or 500-krona banknotes, it is time to go down to the bank and deposit them in an account. The banks will accept these notes until 30 June,” says Christina Wejshammar, Head of the Payments Department.

After 30 June, there is a possibility that the Riksbank can redeem invalid banknotes for an administration fee of SEK 100.To redeem the banknotes at the Riksbank, you must send them in by post.

The banks and the Riksbank apply the provisions of the money laundering act, which means that you may be asked questions as to where the money comes from. You may also have to present copies of receipts, agreements or invoices.
