2014 - Eberstein takes the gavel

Susanne Eberstein

Susanne Eberstein became the first female Chairperson of the General Council of the Riksbank.

Susanne Eberstein is a judge, social democratic politician and, since 1994, Member of the Riksdag. Between 1999 and 2010, Eberstein was a Member of the General Council of the Riksbank. Between 2010 and 2014, she was first deputy speaker of the Riksdag. Among other duties, she has also been Chairperson of the Riksdag Committee on Taxation and Vice Chairperson of the Riksdag Committee on Justice.

In 2014, Eberstein became Chairperson of the General Council of the Riksbank, which appoints members of the Executive Board of the Riksbank and follows up the Riksbank’s operations and how these are managed by members of the Executive Board. Among other things, this is done through the Chairperson and the Vice Chairperson of the General Council of the Riksbank having the right to attend Executive Board meetings. It is also the General Council that decides on the design of the banknotes and coins issued by the Riksbank.

As Chairperson of the General Council, it is also Susanne Eberstein who signs Swedish banknotes, together with the Governor of the Riksbank.
