Submission to the Riksdag on IMF loans

News The Riksbank has decided to make a submission to the Riksdag on consent to sign agreements on loans to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The IMF has sent a request to its Member States to lend money to two different loan programmes to support economically vulnerable countries. These include the IMF’s existing fund for loans to low-income countries, the Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust (PRGT) through which economically strong countries can lend to particularly vulnerable low-income countries. The Riksbank most recently provided a loan to the PRGT in 2020, in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, a new fund is being established, the Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST), which aims to offer affordable long-term loans to finance long-term structural reforms with a focus on climate transition and pandemic preparedness to low-income and economically-weak middle-income countries.
