2008 - Global financial crisis

Exterior from the office of Lehman Brothers

When the US investment bank Lehman Brothers failed, it led to a global financial crisis, the worst since the depression of the 1930s. Sweden managed relatively well.

The problems created by sub-prime loans (securities with collateral in housing) on the US market led to the collapse of the banking firm Lehman Brothers. This triggered an international financial crisis that, in turn, caused a severe depression. Sweden coped relatively well, very much due to the measures adopted in the wake of the crisis of the 1990s.
