International knowledge exchange
The Riksbank has been working with so-called technical assistance (TA) since year 2000. The aim is to strengthen central banks as institutions through knowledge transfer, training and advisory services in key central banking-related areas, which can contribute to economic stability and development in the longer term. The Riksbank's TA is funded by SIDA (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) through Sweden's strategy for Sustainable Growth, Green Transition and Education (2025–2029).
The exact areas of cooperation depend on what the central banks requests. To ensure the cooperation is effective, the commitment made to the cooperating countries is usually long term and covers a period of several years.
The Riksbank’s employees also take part in similar work organised and financed by, for instance, the IMF and the EU.
Criteria to be met to cooperate with a central bank are:
- The central bank must have expressed interest in a contact and have clarified the central bank issues on which they want to cooperate.
- The central bank shall be so well organised that the Riksbank considers cooperation to be meaningful.
- SIDA (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) must have approved the country as a partner country.
