Closed ATMs
For some time, there have been widespread problems with the availability of Bankomat ATMs for withdrawals and deposits. Up to 30 per cent of ATMs have been closed. The problems, according to the Bankomat company, are due to start-up problems they have experienced since they gradually took over operations from Loomis in the first half of this year. Bankomat further states that the problems will persist for some time, and it is unclear for how long. The Riksbank has an ongoing dialogue with Bankomat. The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) have supervisory responsibility for ensuring that the availability of cash services fulfils the current legal requirements.
The Riksbank encourages members of the public wishing to withdraw cash to keep themselves informed via the Bankomat website. There is also a map search service to find out where ATMs are located and which ones are working. The company Kontanten also has a few hundred ATMs around Sweden and they also have a map search service on their website. The ICA bank also has a number of ATMs that can be used.
