Conference on the interaction between monetary and fiscal policy
News, Conference On 6-7 October, the Riksbank organised an international research conference on the interaction between monetary and fiscal policy. The papers presented at the conference have now been published on riksbank.se.
The interaction between the two policy areas has come to the fore in recent years in connection with growing public debt in many countries as public spending has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the geopolitical situation. These changes in fiscal policy affect the wider economy and need to be taken into account when central banks decide on monetary policy, while changes in monetary policy can also have a greater impact on fiscal policy if public debt has increased.
During the conference, ten research papers were presented on different aspects of this interaction. Governor Erik Thedéen gave a welcome address, and the conference concluded with a policy panel in which Deputy Governor Anna Seim participated. Participants came from Swedish and foreign universities, other central banks, international organisations and Swedish public authorities.
