Renovation of the Riksbank building

News The Riksbank building on Brunkebergstorg was opened in 1976 and is in need of extensive renovation. The Executive Board of the Riksbank has now taken an initial decision on the direction for the renovation.

The Riksbank building will soon be 50 years old, and studies carried out show that most of the building's technical infrastructure needs to be replaced in its entirety. This includes the replacement of systems for air/ventilation, fire safety and lighting in the building. At the same time as we are renovating, we are taking the opportunity to adapt the building so that we can be a modern and attractive employer for current and future generations.

As the Riksbank building is Blue Listed (the highest classification for buildings of cultural and historical value), we also have an important responsibility to preserve a cultural heritage. The renovation and modernisation, which will take several years, will therefore be carried out with great care.

To facilitate the renovation work and avoid disruptions to its operations, the Riksbank has earlier rented office premises in central Stockholm for parts of its operations. Additional external office premises will now be needed to fulfil all the Riksbank's requirements for the remaining operations during the renovation. Work is under way to find such a location. At this stage, it is estimated that the relocation could start in the latter part of 2026, but the timing may be adjusted.
