Göran Hjelm new Deputy Governor

Press release The General Council of the Riksbank decided today to appoint Göran Hjelm new member of the Executive Board of the Riksbank. Göran Hjelm succeeds Anna Breman, who left the Riksbank at the end of last year.

Göran Hjelm is currently Administrative Director and Head of the Fiscal Policy Council. Mr Hjelm holds a PhD in Economics from Lund University. He has previously worked as head of research and head of public finances, price-setting and the labour market at the National Institute of Economic Research, and as Inquiry Secretary on the Riksbank Committee.

“We are very pleased to be able to present a new highly qualified person as member of the Executive Board. Göran Hjelm has high academic competence and solid experience of the macroeconomic fields relevant to the Riksbank. He will be a good complement to the other members of the Executive Board with his experience and knowledge of economic analysis and labour market issues,” say Bo Broman, Chair of the General Council, and Tomas Eneroth, Vice Chair in a joint comment.

Göran Hjelm has been appointed for a term of office of six years, with effect from 2 March 2026. The decision was unanimous. Mr Hjelm’s first monetary policy meeting will be the one held on 18 March.

The Executive Board of the Riksbank consists of five members, who are appointed for a term of office of five or six years. The other members of the Board are Governor Erik Thedéen, First Deputy Governor Aino Bunge and Deputy Governors Per Jansson and Anna Seim.
