Current state of cross-border payments in Sweden
News The Riksbank, together with other relevant Swedish authorities, has participated in work on the G20 roadmap from the outset, with the aim of making cross-border payments to and from Sweden faster, cheaper, more transparent and more accessible.
Sweden is a small open economy where cross-border payments play a particularly important role. Although the overall quality of cross-border payments to and from Sweden is already good, we see scope for further improvements in reducing costs and increasing speed.
A response to the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) and the Financial Stability Board (FSB), which leads work on the roadmap, assesses the current state of cross-border payments in Sweden. It also provides an overview of measures taken and outlines ongoing initiatives to achieve further improvements. The response has been prepared by the Riksbank with input from the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority.
