The Riksbank retains the countercyclical buffer rate at 2 per cent
News The Riksbank decides to leave the countercyclical buffer rate unchanged at the level the Riksbank considers neutral, of 2 per cent.
The uncertain global situation has for some time now posed heightened risks to financial stability in Sweden. Despite an uncertain global environment characterised by geopolitical tensions and rising long-term interest rates, the Swedish economy has continued to strengthen, with higher-than-expected GDP growth and improved sentiment amongst households and companies. Although there are signs of a growing build-up of risks globally, the overall assessment is that the build-up of cyclical systemic risks in Sweden remains limited. Swedish banks are also resilient because they are profitable and have strong liquidity and capital buffers.
Given this, the Riksbank has decided to leave the countercyclical buffer rate unchanged at 2 per cent. The current buffer rate provides room for manoeuvre, if necessary, to counteract a tightening of credit supply should external risks materialise and affect the Swedish banking system.
