Open day at the Riksbank, 22 September
Press release On Saturday, 22 September 2018, the world’s oldest central bank, the Riksbank is celebrating its 350th birthday and opening the doors of its head office in Stockholm to the general public.
On 22 September 1668, the Bank of the Estates of the Realm was founded, which later changed its name to Sveriges Riksbank. Exactly 350 years after the bank was founded, the Riksbank will hold an open day at Brunkebergstorg in Stockholm. For the first time, the general public will have the chance to see gold bars from the Riksbank's gold reserves.
During the day there will also be the opportunity to see an exhibition containing private banknotes, Sweden's first coin and a copy of the world's largest copper coin. Governor Stefan Ingves, together with the deputy governors, will give short lectures during the day. Author and historian Gunnar Wetterberg will talk about the Riksbank's 350-year history.
Throughout the day you can meet experts from the Riksbank's various operations and ask questions. Films of the Riksbank's operations will also be shown.
