Press invitation, The Riksbank's anniversary conference 25 May – central banks in the past, present and future

Press release This year Sveriges Riksbank celebrates its 350th anniversary. The Riksbank and the Riksdag are therefore organising an anniversary conference on the theme “Central banks in the past, present and future”. The hosts are the Speaker of the Riksdag Urban Ahlin, Chairperson of the General Council of the Riksbank Susanne Eberstein and Governor of the Riksbank Stefan Ingves. Speakers and panellists will include central bank governors, economists and academics from the entire world. Among others, Governor Mark Carney of the Bank of England, Governor Erkki Liikanen of the Bank of Finland and Jerome Powell, Chair of the Federal Reserve System, will take the floor.

The conference is being held on 25 May 2018, from 9 am to 5 pm in Sveriges Riksdag, Andrakammarsalen (Second Chamber), entry from Riksplan.

Programme

The morning session, which is held in Swedish, is about the role of central banks in society, how this role has changed over time and what challenges lie ahead of us.

The afternoon session, which is held in English, will begin with a presentation of the Riksbank's anniversary book "Sveriges Riksbank and the History of Central Banking". After that there will be a panel discussion concerning the role of central banks in the future.
