New Department for IT and Digitalisation with Ulrika Pilestål as Head

News The Executive Board has decided to establish a new department with effect from 1 January 2022 – the IT and Digitalisation Department. In connection with this decision, Ulrika Pilestål is appointed as new head of department.

In recent years, IT has come to play an increasingly central role in the Riksbank's operations, and has grown in both importance and in the number of employees. The need for competence in the field of IT and digitalisation is expected to increase in the future. As of 1 January 2022, the IT operations of the Corporate Services Department (AVS) will become a separate department – the IT and Digitalisation Department. The General Council of the Riksbank has approved the Board's proposal by deciding on an amendment to the Rules of Procedure, which makes a reorganisation possible.

– “IT and digitalisation are key functions for us to be able to effectively work toward our vision of an innovative central bank with a high level of preparedness, and at the same time participate in the rapid developments on the payment market to meet the changing demands of the world around us”, says Ulrika Pilestål, who is currently Head of IT and Deputy Head of the Corporate Services Department.

As new head of department, Ulrika will have a seat in the Riksbank's management group. First Deputy Governor Cecilia Skingsley comments:

– “Ulrika Pilestål has more than 35 years of experience in IT matters with a background in both the private and public sectors, and over the past 20 years she has held several different management positions in IT. My colleagues and I on the Executive Board are very pleased that Ulrika will be heading up and developing the continuing work in the IT and Digitalisation Department.”
