On 27 November, several changes will be made to the service “Search interest rates and exchange rates”

News On Monday 27 November, several changes will be made to the Riksbank’s online service “Search interest rates and exchange rates”. With regard to exchange rates, the ECB (European Central Bank) will become a new source and, as a result, new exchange rate quotations will become available later than they are at present. The new time for publication on our website will be around 16:15, all Swedish banking days. In addition, we will launch a new Application Programming Interface (API) for interest rates and exchange rates and a new search form on the website.

New source and new publication time for exchange rates

The Riksbank has decided to start publishing exchange rates determined by the ECB instead of those determined by Nasdaq. Most other central banks in the EU use the exchange rates published by the ECB and the Riksbank considers this is a better option to maintain continuity and the quality of calculation and publication. As a result, new quotations for the exchange rates will be available via the Riksbank’s website later than at present, around 16:15 on all Swedish banking days, instead of around 12:10. The changes came into force on Monday 27 November 2023. This means that the exchange rates will not be published at 12:10, but only at 16:15 on Monday 27 November.

New API for interest rates and exchange rates

The Riksbank has also developed a new and more modern API with the aim of making it easier for users to automatically retrieve interest rates and exchange rates from the Riksbank. Since the spring, a beta version of this new REST API has been available. On 27 November 2023, the beta period ends and the new REST API for interest rates and exchange rates will be published via this address, API portal - production on 27 November. If you have previously registered in our beta version of the API portal, you still need to register in the same way in the Riksbank’s production API portal if you do not already have an account there. The old SOAP API will be phased out after a transition period of approximately 6 months.

New search form on the website

Work is also in progress to improve the online form and the search function available on the website. Hopefully this will make it easier for users to search for exchange rates and interest rates. The new form will be launched alongside the new API being published on 27 November 2023.
