New format for the Monetary Policy Report

News With effect from this year, the Riksbank will hold eight scheduled monetary policy meetings a year. After four of these meetings, a Monetary Policy Report with forecasts will be published. A shorter Monetary Policy Update will be published after the other four meetings.

To facilitate comparability between the different documents, the format of the Monetary Policy Report will be changed as of the report published on 27 March.

The contents of the Monetary Policy Report will be structured as follows:

  • Monetary policy considerations: Summarise the Executive Board's assessment of how new information will affect economic prospects, inflation and monetary policy, as well as the Executive Board's deliberations when reaching their conclusion as to what is an appropriate monetary policy. This section has the same structure as the Monetary Policy Update, thus creating comparability between the reports.
  • Chapter 1 The economic situation: Describes the current state of the global and Swedish economy based on macroeconomic statistics and information from financial markets.
  • Chapter 2 The outlook for the coming years: Describes the Riksbank's forecasts.
  • Chapter 3 Monetary policy analysis: Contains a more detailed discussion of the monetary policy decision and the Executive Board's deliberations and stances. This chapter also discusses risks, uncertainties and alternative scenarios.

As before, the Monetary Policy Reports will contain tables comparing the current forecast with the previous forecast.
