Short bio

Joachim joined the Research Division in October 2025. Before joining the Riksbank, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bonn (Germany) and previously at the Institut d'Anàlisi Econòmica (CSIC) and the Barcelona School of Economics (Spain). He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the European University Institute in Florence (Italy).

Joachim’s research focuses on Macroeconomics, Macrofinance, and Firm Heterogeneity. His recent projects study the role of corporate debt maturity in the transmission of monetary policy, firm debt dynamics over the business cycle, firm financing choices in the cross-section, and the links between bank opacity and financial crises. At the University of Bonn, he currently leads an individual research grant (“Sachbeihilfe”) from the German Science Foundation (DFG), titled The Impact of Government Policies on Firm Financing and Investment: Green Transition, Bank Regulation, and Credit Policies for Development.

His research has been published in the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, the Review of Economic Dynamics, and the Journal of Banking & Finance. Joachim has taught courses in Macroeconomics and Macrofinance at the University of Bonn, the Barcelona School of Economics, and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has also held research visits at CIREQ (Université de Montréal, Canada) and CIDE (Mexico City, Mexico).
